Wendy Duxbury
I am a solicitor with over 23 years experience in employment law, advising both employers and employees. I believe that working for ‘both sides’ not only broadens my experience but also helps me to achieve a satisfactory result for my clients.
I qualified as a solicitor at Midlands based firm Brethertons in 2000 before joining the employment team at Cripps in Tunbridge Wells, Kent in 2001 where I gained experience in a wide range of employment law issues, including settlement agreements, redundancy, unfair dismissal, TUPE, contractual disputes and unlawful discrimination as well as drafting and interpreting contracts, service agreements and post termination restrictive covenants.
In 2005 I set up my own small niche practice, Duxburys Solicitors Ltd, specialising in employment law, advising both employers and employees. I run the practice as a one person business working from home and have been doing so for over 18 years. My employer clients are generally small and medium sized businesses based in the south east. I have advised several of my employer clients on a wide range of employment related issues for a long time, 15 years or more. I have considerable experience in advising directors, HR Managers and line managers on problems in the workplace, including unfair and constructive dismissal, discrimination, poor performance and disciplinary matters including gross misconduct as well as less serious misconduct that may warrant a written warning. In all cases my emphasis is on giving timely, pragmatic advice to help my client resolve the problem.
New clients are often referred to me by my previous clients. Frequently, new employee clients have been offered a settlement agreement and need to take legal advice on its terms and effect, or have been told they are at risk of redundancy; or their employment is being transferred to another employer; or they feel they are being unfairly treated at work in some way. The type of unfair treatment could include bullying, harassment, not being paid a bonus or commission or having some of their duties removed by their employer without prior agreement.
My first degree is a BSc Hons from King’s College, London University and then I did a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) at Durham University Business School which has stood me in good stead for running my own business. I completed the Common Professional Examination in Law (CPE), a conversion course for graduates who want to qualify as solicitors, and then the Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice with a Commendation.
