Duxburys Solicitors Ltd is a niche employment law practice started in 2005 by me, Wendy Duxbury, as the sole director. I qualified as a solicitor in 2000 and have specialised in employment law ever since. I work from home and am regulated by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority.

I offer friendly, professional advice to both employers and employees on a wide range of employment law matters including unfair dismissal, settlement agreements, redundancy and disciplinary issues. Clients always deal directly with me by phone and email. This has the advantage of avoiding repetition for clients who might otherwise need to speak not only to the solicitor advising them, but also to trainees or other members of the team.

I am happy to talk to potential new clients for around 15 minutes for no charge. If you then decide you would like to take further legal advice, I will send you a client care letter by email which will set out the key regulatory information that I am required to give, which will include the name of my professional indemnity insurance provider and exactly what you have asked me to advise you about - for example, the terms and effect of a settlement agreement.

The client letter will also state that I charge fees at my hourly rate of £220, and that you will not be charged for VAT on my fees, which is likely to result in a costs saving. The client care letter will also provide an estimate of your total fees. It will also set out the documents I will need to see, which are likely to include relevant email exchanges and correspondence between you and your employer. I will ask you to sign the client care letter and return it to me by email.

I will then set up an initial meeting with you, usually by phone or Teams. This will typically take between 45 minutes and 1 hour. As the work progresses, I will send you regular emails to update you on your legal fees incurred at the time of writing and if necessary, to give you a further update on your likely fees to bring the matter to a conclusion. It is likely that we will communicate regularly by phone and email until the matter is resolved.

If you are an employee who is having problems at work or if you have been made an offer under a ‘without prejudice’ basis to terminate your employment under a settlement agreement, taking legal advice at an early stage can make a real difference to the outcome.
